Details: Join Tom and Cree on a photo tour of Main Street USA, following Route 66 from Oklahoma City, Ok  to Amarillo, Texas.  We visit small towns with old brick buildings that give a glimpse of time gone by. In between towns we drive on sleepy roads winding through cotton fields and oil derricks. We found some of the best old road bed we have ever seen on this section of Route 66.

On our road trip, we will:  1) discuss how to create an effective picture story 2) explain techniques needed to produce a compelling portfolio of images.  We will shoot long exposures of street scenes, and photograph neon at night.  Participants will have the opportunity for portrait photography using available light and speed lights .  Our days will be filled photographing all aspects of Route 66.  Get ready for classic Americana including neon signs, gas stations, windmills, classic cars and more!

On this course you will learn about:

  • Exposure
  • Composition
  • Creating the Picture Story
  • Multiple Exposure
  • Flash in Travel Photography
  • Compelling travel portraits

Hotels: the historic hotels on this stretch are kindly put “well worn”. For that reason, we recommend staying with the group at 3 different Holiday Inn Express. If you would rather stay in classic hotels (and feel adventurous) we can help you with that as well.

Edmond, OK near Oklahoma City  October 18-19: Holiday Inn Express Edmond, OK This hotel is right on Route 66 and easy to access if driving from I-35.

Elk City October 20: We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express

Amarillo, Texas October 21: We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express West Amarillo Hotel in order to be close to the Cadillac Ranch.  For the final morning shoot of the workshop, we will set-up speed lights to illuminate the cars at first light when the crowds are still asleep. Tom is threatening to use more than the 13 he set up at the WigWam.
