Details: Western Colorado in the fall has one of the most vibrant displays of autumn color in the United States.  Home to the densest groves of aspen trees in the country, brilliant gold and orange aspens saturate the valleys below the jagged snow-capped peaks of the San Juan Mountains.  The air is cool, the elk are bugling in the forest, and the night skies are great for star photography.

We have been leading trips to this area for over a decade, and will take you to some of our favorite spots.  We will photograph classic areas like Dallas Divide and Mt. Sneffels and head up into the high country for beautiful orange aspens near Owl Creek Pass and Chimney Rock.  Above Ouray we will photograph more stands of aspen and deserted gold mines.  In addition to the grand landscapes, macro photography is excellent.  We also plan to light paint and photograph the stars one night.

This tour will focus on shooting in the field.  Our days will be filled photographing the area, with short breaks midday.  We will cover numerous topics and techniques in the field, and provide image feedback along the way.  Our only indoor class session will be the first night as an orientation. We will be based in Ouray, Colorado, a scenic historic mining town located below the towering San Juan Mountains.

If you have ever wanted to photograph Colorado at its best, come join us on this workshop.  The vast stands of gold aspen, clear mountain air and majestic San Juan mountains will leave you awestruck…and with beautiful images.

Hotel: We will set up a group block for Tom Bol Photo Workshops closer to the workshop date.

Closest Airport: The closest airport is in Montrose, Colorado, just 40 minutes away. Walker Field in Grand Junction, Colorado is a larger facility and 2 hours drive from Ouray.
