Description: Join Tom and Cree with the Wild Source on a luxurious 9 day adventure to photograph the best of South Africa: Big Cats and the Big 5. We will be visiting two exclusive lodges on this tour, where it is rare to not see the Big 5. We start at the Ngala Safari Lodge on the private Timbavati Game Reserve. Expect to see breeding herds of elephant, leopard, spotted hyena, giraffe, large buffalo herds and white rhino.
For our second destination we move on to legendary Kirkman’s Kamp in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. The reserve is world-renowned for its prolific leopard sightings that are just unmatched anywhere else in the world. Relax in your air conditioned room after a full day of game drives on safari. Both of these private reserves are on the unfenced border with Kruger National Park.
Why go on safari with us?
- We have chosen top notch resorts for our South Africa Workshop. The experience will feel very exclusive and will allow you to unwind in peaceful surroundings when not out photographing.
- Small group size. With just 10 people on our tour and two photo guides, everyone will receive plenty of attention. With 3 vehicles for our group of 12, there is plenty of room to spread out and photograph.
- Focus on photography. We will be out in the vehicles for long days of wildlife photography. Meals can be driven out to us so we stay where the action is. Less luxury on this tour, more photography.
- Just two locations. We only move twice while we are in the field. This gives you more familiarity with the local animals and less time traveling to destinations.
- We have included the domestic flight in the cost of the workshop. This means fewer details for you to coordinate.

What are the accommodations?
We stay at Ngala Safari Camp and Kirkman’s Kamp. Both locations are luxurious with well provisioned rooms, pools and even air-conditioning at Kirkman’s
Closest Airport: Fly in and out of Johannesburg O. R. Tambo Airport. Arrive on or before September 20. We will be staying at the Intercontinental Hotel in Johannesburg. Flights out on September 29 should be booked to time with our arrival from Skukuza Airport that morning.

Participants will provide their own:
- International Air to/from Johannesburg, South Africa
- Tips – On safari we recommend $40 per person per day — $25 to your guide, and $15 to the camp staff.
- Visa for South Africa
- COVID-19 testing if required.

- Excess baggage costs for luggage beyond internal flight weight restrictions.
- Travel Insurance is required by the camps. As a service to our clients, we provide complimentary quotes from Travel Guard or you are welcome to secure your own policy.
- Health Preparations – visit to a Travel Clinic and any medications or vaccines needed
Know Before You Go: Rated Moderate. This trip involves walking up to one mile over uneven terrain, climbing steps to get into and out of our raised safari vehicles, and participating on long safari drives, sometimes in hot, dusty conditions. Safari drives require long hours of sitting and are often very rough and bumpy. This may be an issue for photographers with back or neck problems. A wildlife lens of 400mm or more is recommended.
