Texas Songbirds & Raptors

Details: Come join us for warm weather bird photography from the amazing Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas.  We are going in February when the largest number of raptors congregate at the ranch. It is possible to see more than 50 Crested Caracaras, Turkey Vultures, Black Vultures gathered at one time. In addition we regularly see Harris Hawks and White-tailed Hawks at the ranch. With so many raptors in one place, it is easy to photograph interactions between raptors and even species of raptors.

When we are not focused on raptors we will photograph the resident South Texas specialty songbirds which include Green Jays, Pyrrhuloxia, Long Billed Thrashers, Greater Roadrunners. Wild Turkeys and Bobwhite Quail. By setting up perches and using bird food to lure them in, the birds will come to us.  We will have exclusive use of the ranch and multiple blinds each day.


Costa Rica Rainforest

Description: Adventure with Tom and Cree Bol to Costa Rica to photograph the colorful mammals, birds and plants of the rain forest. Expect to wake up each morning listening to scarlet macaws in the almond trees near your room, and howler monkeys  ‘howling’ in the distance.  The resort grounds include an estuary with breeding snowy egrets, green herons, green kingfishers and boat-billed herons.  Other trails lead to the beach and through the forest where you will see toucans and perhaps a sloth hanging in the trees. Yellow-headed Caracaras and roadside hawks are common, and you can practice your panning technique as they fly past your room.    


Patagonia in Fall Photo Tour

Patagonia is one of our most popular international destinations. Return to Patagonia with us in 2028 to photograph jaw-dropping landscapes in prime fall foliage. There will be abundant wildlife as well as photo shoots of the rich gaucho culture.  We’ve been working with the same guide for over 20 years, and have specifically designed this photo tour to experience the best Patagonia has to offer in both Argentina and Chile.


Louisiana Birds and Bayous

Details: Join Tom and Cree Bol in the heart of Louisiana to photograph the Bald Cypress Swamps near Lafayette. We have timed our workshop for prime nesting for egrets, herons and spoonbills. We will photograph by boat during four of our sessions and visit two different rookery sites. After full days of instruction and photograph we will relax with some of the best Cajun food in the country.


Monument Valley Photography Workshop

Details: Join Tom and Cree in one of the most spectacular and sacred places in the Desert Southwest, Monument Valley. We will explore landscapes and portraits in the heart of the Navajo Nation. We chose this time of year for low moonlight and favorable star photography over the Monuments.

Tom has been offering workshops in Monument Valley for over 15 years. For this workshop we will be using Carl Phillips. Carl will take us to remote places in the valley to get the best angles and unique perspectives on the landscape. We will photograph iconic vistas like the Mittens, the Totem, Hunt’s Mesa Vista and journey into the lesser know Mystery Valley.be staying at lodging directly beneath the aurora oval, the best place to see northern lights in the US, even with a low KP index.


Nome: Musk Ox and Arctic Birds

Details: Join Tom and Cree as they explore the tundra wildlife near Nome, Alaska during the height of Alaska’s summer. Nome is a small, coastal village on the Bering Sea with a charismatic history of Native culture, mining and the endpoint for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.  With only plane and boat access, this unique town blends rustic Alaska life with stunning access to tundra and arctic wildlife.   We timed this photo tour for the week in June where breeding birds are singing and baby musk oxen are frolicking.


Brown Bears of Lake Clark 2028

Details: This is our most popular bear destination in Alaska and we are going in mid June in hopes of photographing playful spring cubs! We start in Anchorage for a welcome dinner and fly to our comfortable lodge at Silver Salmon Creek in Lake Clark National Park to photograph coastal brown bears and their cubs. This time of year they graze on sedge grasses, dig for clams and start catching fish in the creek.  The bear density in this area is remarkable. We will spend our days photographing bears as well as  a morning photographing puffin by small boat.


Iceland: Puffins and Waterfalls

Details: Join Tom and Cree Bol for a magical summer workshop in Iceland. This is the perfect combination of wildlife and landscape photography. We are headed to Grimsey Island to photograph the Atlantic Puffin. We have timed this workshop to hit prime time for photos of puffin catching small fish for their young. We also spend time photographing Icelandic horses on a remote farm. We will use the endless soft light in July to explore the Highlands of Iceland, one of Europe’s largest unpopulated areas. It is full of glaciers, volcanoes, amazing waterfalls and hot springs.


Ouray Fall Colors

Details: Western Colorado in the fall has one of the most vibrant displays of autumn color in the United States.  Home to the densest groves of aspen trees in the country, brilliant gold and orange aspens saturate the valleys below the jagged snow-capped peaks of the San Juan Mountains.  The air is cool, the elk are bugling in the forest, and the night skies are great for star photography.


Bosque and White Sands

Details: Bosque del Apache in New Mexico is one of the best places in the world to photograph sandhill cranes. The cranes fly into Bosque’s “Crane Ponds” each afternoon, sometimes silhouetted on a blood red sky. For the second part of the trip, we will travel to White Sands National Park to photograph stark yucca plants on dazzling white dunes of gypsum sand. There is plenty of space to roam looking for the perfect desert dune landscape.
