Details: Are you interested in learning how to take better travel portraits? Want to know how to shoot a compelling image using a speed light in one minute or less? Or maybe you want to shoot portraits against warm adobe backgrounds? Join us in the heart of the desert southwest to learn how to photograph the people of Santa Fe. This class will be loaded with fantastic photo opportunities while participants learn how to create evocative portraits and master lighting techniques.
Our days will be filled with class time mixed with photo shoots. We will be photographing a variety of models including cowboys, indigenous Puebloan people and colorful locals. Locations include urban settings, adobe architecture and an authentic pueblo nestled in the mountains between Santa Fe and Taos. We will take advantage of Santa Fe’s renowned dining to teach how to do a five minute food shot for travel photographers. This class will provide ample opportunity for all participants to practice flash techniques and work with models during the photo shoots.
We have secured access to a number of special locations, and group size will be limited to 10 participants for maximum hands-on learning. With generous support from Elinchrom and Rogue we will have extensive gear for all the participants to use. Each participant will receive two ebooks: The Practical Lighting Handbook and Create Better Photographs.
On this course you will learn about:
- Characteristics of light
- Portrait composition
- Using light modifiers and gels
- Maximizing available light for the best image
- TTL and Manual speed light use
- High speed sync flash
- Working with models; the do’s and don’ts of posing
- Strobe packs vs. speedlights
- Effective, simple lighting techniques for portraits
- Five minute food photography
