Details: Join Tom and Cree Bol in the remote cloud forest of Ecuador to photograph some of the world’s most beautiful hummingbirds, songbirds and jungle flowers. We will seek out the Sword Billed Hummingbird, Booted Racket-tail, Violet-tailed Sylph, Crowned Wood Nymph and a few dozen other species of hummingbird. In addition to hummingbirds, we will photograph other exotic Ecuadorean bird species like tanagers, toucans, barbets and the Rose-Faced Parrot at 2 lodges and several single day destinations.

On this workshop you will:

  • Photograph hummingbirds in both natural light and with multi-flash set-ups
  • Photograph colorful songbirds, toucans and barbets
  • Photograph a variety of flowers at local bird reserves
  • Master our multi-flash set-ups
  • Visit a variety of habitats and world-class bird destinations 

Closest Airport: Quito, Ecuador

Recommended camera gear:

  • 1 or 2 Camera bodies
  • Lenses ranging from wide angle 24mm to 70-200mm
  • Wildlife lens: some choices include 200-500mm, 300mm F4, or longer
  • Tripod
  • Polarizing filter
  • Macro lens

Included in the fee:

  • All instruction with two photography instructors and a 4:1 student ration
  • All accommodations and transportation once in Ecuador
  • Most meals on the tour
  • Professional bird guide with local knowledge of the area
  • Entrance fees to all bird parks and reserves

Participants will provide their own:

  • RT travel to Quito, Ecuador
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tips for guides and other staff

We recommend purchasing trip and cancellation insurance.

Know Before You Go: Rated Moderate. This workshop requires walking 1-3 miles per day in uneven and moist terrain at a high altitude. A wildlife lens is recommended.
