Death Valley National Park

SOLD OUT

Location: Death Valley National Park, California

Dates: February 2-6, 2022, Wednesday at 7 pm – Sunday morning at 10

Cost: $1499

Details: Death Valley is a landscape photographer’s paradise, and a perfect warm weather destination during the winter.  A park of extremes, Death Valley has the lowest point, highest recorded temperature and driest conditions in North America.  Badwater Basin is 282 feet below sea level.  The exquisite warm light, sublime Panamint Mountains and unique sand dunes and geological features offer bountiful photography opportunities.

We will photograph iconic locations including Zabrinski Point, Dante’s View, Artist’s Drive, Golden Canyon and Badwater Basin.  We’ll explore the remarkable salt pan polygons in the area, and jagged terrain of Devil’s Golf Course. Mesquite Flat sand dunes offer easy access to acres of dune photography.  And we will use macro photography techniques to photograph the striations and textures of Mosaic Canyon.

Death Valley has some of the darkest night skies we have ever seen, so we have planned our trip dates near the new moon.  We are planning multiple star photography sessions, as well as light painting sessions of some the rustic wagons in the valley.  We will also spend an afternoon photographing the ghost town of Rhyolite.  Our mornings and evenings we will be out photographing, and at midday we will have classes in our conference room.  And as it has become tradition, one night we will roast marshmallows over the fire at our hotel.

On this course you will learn about:

  • Exposure
  • Composition
  • Using filters (what you cannot find in PhotoShop)
  • Lightroom workflow; the ten steps you need to do to every image
  • Macro Photography

We will be photographing mornings and evenings with midday classes and image critiques.
